Biological aspects of the two-spotted spider mite on strawberry plants under silicon application Horticultura Brasileira
Ribeiro,Edenilson B; Castellani,Maria Aparecida; Andrade,Daniel Júnior de; Prado,Renato de M; Souza,Larissa Adelita SC; Freire,Daniel S; Savi,Patrice Jacob.
ABSTRACT Silicon is an inducer of plant resistance to arthropod pests, being a promising strategy for integrated management. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of silicon on biological, reproductive and population aspects of parental and F1 generations of the two-spotted spider mite on strawberry plants. Potassium silicate, nanosilica and water were applied to the plants. Two-spotted spider mite females were confined to strawberry leaf disks for oviposition and, after hatching, larvae were observed until the emergence of adults. Once adults had been obtained, couples were formed in order to evaluate pre-oviposition, oviposition, longevity and fertility, with an estimated net reproduction rate, intrinsic rate of increase, finite rate of...

Nitrogen fertilization on intercropping of lettuce and rocket Horticultura Brasileira
Barros Júnior,Aurélio P; Cecílio Filho,Arthur B; Rezende,Bráulio Luciano A; Pôrto,Diego RQ; Prado,Renato de M.
The work was carried out at UNESP, Jaboticabal, São Paulo State, Brazil, from September to December 2006, to evaluate the effect of nitrogen fertilization on intercropping of lettuce and rocket. The experiment was conducted in a randomized complete block design, with four replications, treatments being arranged in a 4 x 4 + 2 factorial design. The treatments were the result of a combination of four N rates for lettuce (0, 65, 130 and 195 kg ha-1) and four N rates for rocket (0, 65, 130 and 195 kg ha-1), plus two additional treatments, which corresponded to lettuce and rocket under single cropping. Veronica (lettuce) and Folha Larga (rocket) were the cultivars used. An increase in the N rate for both cultures, under intercropping system, caused fresh matter...

Phosphorus sources enriched with filter cake and microorganisms in the soil microbiota: Phosphorus absorption and sugar cane dry matter production Ciencia e Investigación Agraria
Hernández,Alfredo R; Prado,Renato de M; González,Leónides C; Caione,Gustavo; Moda,Leandro R; Assis,Luis C; Almeida,Hilário J.
Filter cake enriched with biofertilizer (associated with fertilizer phosphate) can increase the available phosphorus, and thus improve the absorption of phosphorus and dry matter accumulation by plants. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of phosphorus sources in the absence and presence of filter cake (enriched with biofertilizer or not enriched) on the soil population of microorganisms, soil phosphorus content, phosphorus accumulation in the aerial portion of the plant and production of dry matter in sugar cane plants. The experiment was performed in a greenhouse using sugar cane as the test plant. A completely randomized design was adopted with a 3×3+1 factorial arrangement and three repetitions. The treatments consisted of the...
